India is expanding its bilateral cooperation with various nations in the areas of environmental research, climate strategy, and resource management. In Oslo, Indian and Norwegian officials met for the 12th Joint Working Group on Environment to advance a ‘Green Strategic Partnership’. The discussions centered on marine pollution, waste recycling, carbon markets, and sustainable ocean management. Simultaneously, diplomatic efforts in Nuuk focused on strengthening ties between India and Greenland. These discussions covered mining investments, labor mobility for healthcare and hospitality, and potential Indian involvement in polar scientific research through collaborations between research institutions. Building on these efforts, Indian Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George and Norwegian State Secretary Astrid Bergmal met in New Delhi to further the ‘Green Strategic Partnership’. The discussions expanded to include enhancing trade and investment ties between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), as well as deepening cooperation in fisheries and the Arctic. These talks follow a previous meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store during the Nordic-India Summit in Oslo. Recent developments show continued momentum in the India-Norway Green Strategic Partnership, specifically regarding fisheries, the Arctic, and trade under the India-EFTA framework. The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) has completed its first year, with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal noting that approximately 8,000 Rules of Origin certificates have been issued, indicating early business adoption.
