India critical mineral auction and mining initiatives

Overview

The Indian Ministry of Mines has launched several initiatives to bolster domestic mineral exploration and resource development. During a national mining ministers conference in Goa, the government introduced the ninth tranche of auctions for 20 critical and strategic mineral blocks across eight states, covering materials such as graphite, vanadium, and rare earth elements.

To support these efforts, the Indian Bureau of Mines unveiled two new digital portals, ANVESH and EKAM, intended to improve data-driven governance. Alongside the mineral block auctions, the ministry has initiated a third round of exploration licence auctions, allowing private companies to assess 29 specified minerals. These measures aim to reduce import reliance and strengthen supply chains for sectors including clean energy, aerospace, and electronics.
