India equity mutual fund investment trends

Overview

In July, net investment in Indian equity mutual fund schemes decreased by 15 percent month-on-month, totaling 24,697 crore rupees. This decline was linked to investor caution concerning high valuations and limited returns in specific segments.

While overall equity inflows dropped, small-cap and mid-cap funds experienced significant activity, with small-cap funds recording a record 7,768 crore rupees in net investment. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions showed resilience, rising slightly to 31,961 crore rupees.

The broader mutual fund industry shifted toward debt-oriented schemes, including liquid, overnight, and money market funds. As a result, total Assets Under Management (AUM) for the industry grew by 4.3 percent month-on-month to reach 85.76 lakh crore rupees.
