India's Government e-Marketplace (GeM) marked its 10th anniversary with a 10-day series of celebrations, featuring a commemorative logo, a concept film, and various stakeholder events such as buyer and seller meetings. Following including its 10th Foundation Day in New Delhi. During these celebrations, the events, Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced plans to launch a new, AI-enabled platform reported significant growth, reaching designed to enhance transparency, competitiveness, and procurement efficiency. GeM has reached a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of over Rs 20 lakh crore and crore, facilitating more than 3.78 crore orders. As it enters its 11th year, Growth has accelerated significantly, with Rs 10 lakh crore in procurement occurring in the first eight years, followed by another Rs 10 lakh crore in the last two years alone. The platform's annual GMV recently exceeded Rs 1,55,000 crore, up from Rs 422 crore a decade ago. The marketplace currently connects approximately 1.37 lakh government buyer organizations with nearly 25 lakh sellers, including a significant number of micro sellers and small enterprises, service providers across more than 10,660 product categories. Participation from diverse groups remains high: over 12.28 lakh Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) are registered—with women-led businesses, MSEs accounting for over 2.24 lakh registrations—and more than 42,000 startups have conducted business worth approximately Rs 66,000 crore. Looking toward its next decade, the government outlined five strategic priorities: strengthening last-mile access via Suvidha Kendras, utilizing Artificial Intelligence for price intelligence and startups. marketplace integrity, integrating states and cooperatives into a national ecosystem, focusing on credit and sustainability through GeM Sahay and TReDS, and increasing university outreach. A new nationwide helpdesk short code, 14550, was also launched to support stakeholders.
