The Delhi government launched the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign ahead of Independence Day, planning to distribute more than 1.5 million national flags across the capital, with about 200,000 produced by Self-Help Groups under the State Urban Livelihood Mission. Following Delhi’s rollout, district administrations in the North-East organised extensive programmes. In Tawang, household flag hoisting began on 9 August alongside a Tiranga Yatra, bike and cycle rallies, exhibitions on Partition and a mass rendition of Vande Mataram through 15 August. Nagaland’s Home Department ran similar activities from 9 to 17 August, including a police-led Tiranga rally, digital exhibitions and cycle/e-bike rallies, and requested 160,000 flags through the Department of Posts. Citizens were urged to upload “Selfie with Tiranga” photos to an official portal. In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the campaign’s third phase (9-17 August). The Union Territory aims to retain the top rank by involving every panchayat, urban local body and educational institution across its 20 districts, procuring flags through local Self-Help Groups and the Department of Posts, and conducting awareness drives. A flagship event on 12 August in Srinagar will feature a Tiranga Bike Rally with paramilitary forces, a Tiranga Mela showcasing local handicrafts, cultural performances, exhibitions on the flag and freedom movement, and school-based activities. More than 1.4 million flags have been requisitioned, and participants are encouraged to share photographs on the official portal. Nationwide, the campaign runs from 9 to 17 August, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the flag as a source of national pride. In Rajasthan, the Chief Minister has encouraged citizens to participate via the official campaign portal. In Odisha, the campaign has seen large-scale involvement through Mission Shakti Self Help Groups (SHGs).
