Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan conducted a four-day official visit to Mauritius from August 10 to August 13, 2026, to strengthen bilateral maritime security and defense ties. The visit included high-level meetings with Mauritian leadership, including Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and officials from the police and defense sectors. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard through training exchanges, information-sharing, and joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance. Admiral Swaminathan reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Mauritian capabilities under the ‘MAHASAGAR vision’ to improve interoperability and operational coordination within the Indian Ocean Region. During the visit, the Admiral presented a commemorative plaque featuring a detailed seabed map produced via side-scan sonar technology to highlight hydrographic cooperation intended to protect Mauritius’s natural resources and its EEZ.
