Overview

India is modernizing its defense infrastructure through advancements in space-based assets, integrated border security, and domestic manufacturing. To enhance military space architecture, the country is working to deploy a new surveillance constellation of 52 satellites to secure sovereign access to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. This is being developed alongside the AI-powered GRID battle-management architecture.

Procurement efforts also include an Rs 811 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons for the Indian Air Force. At the DEFCON 2026 forum, officials emphasized the integration of indigenous AI to enhance threat prediction and decision-making. Military leadership noted that AI is intended to augment soldiers through human-machine teaming, focusing on target acquisition, surveillance, logistics, and cyber defense.
