In early July, the schedule for the national Parliament’s monsoon session was announced, set to run from 20 July to 13 August. A month later, the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly began its own monsoon session on 3 August, but it was limited to four days, ending on days until 6 August. Opposition leaders in the state, leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress member Aradhana Mishra, argued that the brief period was insufficient to debate pressing issues such as the electricity crisis, unemployment, school closures, farmer concerns, the Ram Mandir case, and ongoing student protests. They protests, and called for the session to be extended an extension to at least ten days. The state government indicated willingness to said it would answer questions but warned that repeated disruptions could suggest signal a lack of substantive issues from the opposition. Speaker Satish Mahana assured that opposition members would receive full speaking time under the rules and cautioned against any reduction. BSP president Mayawati urged the session to focus on public‑welfare matters rather than partisan disruptions. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya indicated that the agenda would include legislative work and the presentation of a supplementary budget aimed at improving lives in the state, while the opposition pledged to raise a broad range of issues, suggesting the session could become contentious.
