During the 7th Session of the India–Morocco Joint Commission held in Rabat, officials from both nations established a goal to double bilateral trade volume within five years. Bilateral merchandise trade was recorded at approximately $4 billion during the 2025-2026 period, with Morocco’s exports to India totaling roughly $2.89 billion and Indian exports to Morocco standing at about $1.6 billion. To achieve these targets, the governments identified an untapped trade potential of approximately $2.6 billion. Discussions focused on addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers, improving trade facilitation, and studying the feasibility of a preferential trade agreement through a new joint working group. Key sectors identified for cooperation include fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, automotive, aerospace, textiles, renewable energy, and construction materials. The two nations also expressed interest in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and the digital economy. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding on food safety was discussed between Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Morocco currently maintains a trade surplus with India, largely driven by massive Indian imports of phosphates and derivatives used in agriculture. To sustain momentum, officials emphasized enhancing market access through more predictable regulatory approvals and transparent standards. Moroccan participation in the upcoming Partnership Summit 2026 in Visakhapatnam was also highlighted as a step toward deeper industrial and digital connectivity.
