Six years after the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was launched, India's education system is grappling with both financial and operational challenges. A parliamentary panel flagged that only about half of the ₹62,660 crore earmarked for central schemes such as Samagra Shiksha was actually spent, highlighting under‑utilisation despite the Union Budget’s record allocation for school education. At the same time, the Supreme Court ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education to enforce nationwide parental consent for the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID, placing the digital student‑identity project under heightened legal scrutiny.

In the following week, officials highlighted progress on the policy’s learning‑outcome agenda. The 5+3+3+4 school structure is being rolled out, with the Vidya Pravesh programme reaching 4.2 crore children and the NIPUN Bharat initiative focusing on foundational literacy. Over 12.9 lakh teachers have completed competency‑based training, and multilingual learning resources are expanding. States continue to wrestle with resource constraints that will affect the full impact of the reforms.
