A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant noted that the contentious content has been replaced following revisions suggested by a government-constituted expert panel. The court emphasized that while constructive critique is a necessary feature of democracy for institutional accountability, such discourse must be responsible and voiced through appropriate forums rather than through unverified assertions in school curricula intended for impressionable students.
During the proceedings, the court clarified that certain previous remarks regarding the curriculum not being a collective decision were submissions made by the Solicitor General rather than formal judicial observations.
