India T20I selection controversy

Overview

The selection of the Indian national cricket team for the T20I series against Afghanistan has drawn scrutiny following the exclusion of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Despite strong recent performances in Zimbabwe and the Duleep Trophy, Suryavanshi was replaced in the starting eleven by Sanju Samson for the first match in New Delhi.

Following India’s seven-wicket victory, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif criticized the management’s strategy, questioning the decision to recall Samson when he lacked recent match rhythm. Kaif suggested that the selection process indicates management is “hesitant and uncertain regarding the team’s optimal opening combination.”
