US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has undertaken extensive diplomatic engagements to strengthen bilateral economic, technological, and strategic ties. During visits to Karnataka and Kerala, Gor focused on emerging technologies, maritime infrastructure, and securing global supply chains through initiatives like ‘Pax Silica’. In Bengaluru, Gor noted that bilateral trade has grown from USD 20 billion to over USD 240 billion over the last decade, highlighting Karnataka as a hub hosting over 1,000 US companies. Discussions in Karnataka also touched upon the development of India’s first ‘Quantum City’ at Hesaraghatta. In Kerala, Gor met with Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan to discuss cooperation in higher education, tourism, and the Vizhinjam and Kochi ports, while the state proposed an ‘Invest Desk’ in the United States. Diplomatic efforts in New Delhi involved meetings with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and MP Milind Deora to expand trade. High-level communication between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President JD Vance has emphasized the ‘India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership’ regarding defense, energy, and critical minerals. In Mumbai, Gor met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss technology, energy, and healthcare, specifically noting the ‘MediCity’ health ecosystem project with the Cleveland Clinic. Gor is also scheduled to address the IACC National Convention 2026. In a significant diplomatic development, Gor conducted his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir, meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. Gor signaled that the US may re-evaluate its travel advisory for the region, citing “incredible steps” taken by the governments in New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir to improve security. He described the territory as an “important part of India” and a “beautiful area.” During the meeting, Abdullah stated that while he welcomed the discussion, the resolution of the region's internal issues remains a domestic matter for the Indian central government. Gor is scheduled to visit Ladakh following his stay in Srinagar.
