Indian Coast Guard maritime operations

Overview

The Indian Coast Guard has engaged in both large-scale training and active emergency response operations. In early October, the agency conducted SAREX-2026, a multinational maritime search and rescue exercise near Paradip. The drill involved 32 observers from 30 countries and simulated a mass rescue operation involving a passenger aircraft and a container vessel to improve international interoperability.

Later in the month, following the impact of Cyclone Arnab, the Coast Guard launched a real-world rescue mission for the crew of the Sigma Pearl. The Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier suffered engine failure near the Ravva oilfield off the Kakinada coast. The agency deployed a helicopter and the Offshore Patrol Vessel Sujay to assist the six stranded crew members.
