The Indian Coast Guard has conducted multiple maritime rescue operations involving distressed vessels and crew members. In late September 2026, the Indian Coast Guard rescued a 36-year-old Bangladeshi crew member from the bulk carrier MV AMRIS near the North Andaman Islands after the individual sustained severe head and spinal injuries. The casualty was evacuated to Sri Vijaya Puram for medical treatment. Shortly after, the Indian Coast Guard responded to a distress call from the MT Seagull 9, a Belize-flagged chemical tanker off the coast of Odisha. The vessel, carrying approximately 9,000 metric tonnes of palm oil, had experienced engine failure and flooding. A The ICGS Vishwast was deployed to the scene, where a specialist damage control team stabilized boarded the tilting tanker to stabilize the vessel using submersible de-flooding pumps and sealed by sealing damaged pipelines before towing seawater pipelines. The operation, supported by aerial surveillance from a Dornier aircraft, prevented the tilting tanker from capsizing and allowed it to be towed to the Paradip anchorage.
