Indian cybersecurity and AI hackathons
Overview
In August 2026, multiple Indian institutions launched national-level cybersecurity and artificial intelligence hackathons to foster technical talent and security expertise.
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) introduced ‘CYBER KUSHTI 2026’, a competition serving as the technical track for the 3rd National Conference on Cyber Security, Digital Forensics and Intelligence. The event focuses on human judgment in security assessments, challenging participants to distinguish genuine threats from AI-generated false positives.
Concurrently, the Indian Army’s Territorial Army, in partnership with CyberPeace, launched ‘Terrier Cyber Quest 2026’. This initiative includes tracks for bug hunting in simulated national infrastructure, the development of AI-driven defense systems through ‘AI Kavach’, and a ‘National Creators Challenge’ to combat disinformation and deepfakes.
