Farmers organized under banners such as Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha have attempted a march toward Delhi, resulting in a standoff at the Khanauri crossing on the Punjab-Haryana border. Haryana Police implemented heavy security measures, including riot control units, concrete blocks, and multi-layered barricades, to prevent protesters from entering the state. The protesters are demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), farm loan waivers, and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report. They are also opposing proposed free-trade agreements, including an interim India-US trade deal, and calling for the release of detained leaders. As the blockade continued, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, chief of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Sidhupur, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Haryana government to permit a peaceful march to Delhi on foot. Dallewal noted that while the organization can mobilize thousands, they intended to proceed with a limited number of people to maintain a peaceful demonstration. Following the interception of the ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’ at the Khanouri-Data Singhwala border, farmers have postponed their march toward Delhi. This decision follows assurances from the administration and the scheduling of a meeting on September 4, 2026, in Delhi with Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal. Farmer leaders stated that if this meeting fails to produce a positive resolution, they will resume their nationwide march. In the latest development, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have called off their sit-in at the border after being promised the meeting with Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. While the protest is currently suspended, leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal emphasized that the movement will resume if the scheduled talks are cancelled or postponed. Authorities are expected to remove barricades and reopen the national highway following the decision to withdraw.
