Indian military loitering munition procurement

Overview

India has initiated several procurement processes to integrate loitering munitions, or “kamikaze drones,” into its military branches.

The Indian Navy issued a Request for Information for ship-launched, medium-range munitions with a minimum operational range of 1,000 km and nine hours of endurance. These systems are intended to provide warships with independent offensive capabilities for long-range surveillance and precision strikes in the Indian Ocean Region.

Concurrently, the Indian Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth approximately $165 million for the Indian Army. These agreements, awarded to domestic manufacturers Tata Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited, aim to bolster the operational effectiveness of artillery regiments by integrating unmanned strike systems with conventional firepower.
