The Indian national football teams continue their preparations for various international competitions. The India U-20 men’s team, the ‘Blue Colts’, is currently competing in the AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2027 Qualifiers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In their opening Group B match at the Do’stlik Stadium, India secured a historic 1-0 victory over Syria. Shami Singamayum scored the decisive goal in the 86th minute following a move involving substitute Md Arbash. This result marks India’s first-ever competitive win against Syria in the U19/U20 age group. Under head coach Mahesh Gawali, the team maintained a deep defensive stance, supported by several critical saves from goalkeeper Suraj Singh Aheibam to preserve the clean sheet. Aheibam’s performance marked his fifth consecutive shutout, including pre-qualifier friendlies. Syria nearly took the lead on multiple occasions, including a 73rd-minute header from Ahmad Khalaf that struck the crossbar. Following the match, where hosts Uzbekistan defeated Bangladesh 2-0, India sits in a strong position within Group B. The team is now scheduled to face Uzbekistan as they aim to qualify for the Asian Cup for the first time since 2006. At the youth level, the India U-17 men’s team remains drawn into Group E for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. Those matches are scheduled to be held in Malaysia from November 11 to 20, 2024, where India will face Malaysia, Palestine, Singapore, and Guam. On the senior men’s level, the AIFF previously confirmed that India will host Panama in an international friendly on September 26, 2026, as part of a series of fixtures against high-ranking nations including Brazil and New Zealand.
