Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been overseeing and inaugurating large-scale infrastructure developments across India. In late August, the Prime Minister chaired the 53rd PRAGATI meeting to review six major projects in the railway, road, and power sectors across nine states, totaling over 30,000 crore rupees. During this review, he emphasized that execution speed must be paired with “uncompromising quality” to avoid cost increases and delays in social benefits. In response to concerns regarding infrastructure integrity, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced third-party quality audits for major transport projects. By early September, the focus shifted to a tour of Gujarat and Maharashtra to launch development projects valued at over 35,000 crore rupees. A central component of this initiative is was the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), costing more than 20,700 crore rupees. These sections—New Sanand-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale, and New Saphale-New JNPT—cover 326 route kilometers and are intended to improve logistics connectivity and reduce cargo transit times. These sections are expected to provide kilometers. Their completion makes the WDFC fully operational across its entire length, providing direct connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), facilitating faster movement of EXIM (JNPA) to accelerate export-import cargo movement, reduce logistics costs, and helping to decongest the Mumbai ease congestion on Mumbai’s railway network. The Prime Minister also flagged off new freight and passenger services, including a line connecting remote tribal areas of Alirajpur to the national rail grid. In addition to industrial projects, the Prime Minister’s itinerary included the ‘NaMo for Viksit Bharat’ program in Vadodara, an event designed to engage Gen Z. Registrations for this event reportedly sold out within one hour, leaving over 42,000 people on a waiting list. He also scheduled the inauguration of inaugurated ‘Namo Kamlam’, described as the country’s first AI-equipped district-level BJP office in Navsari, and participation in the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
