Political leaders within India’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have launched a series of criticisms against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi following his remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The controversy stems from a Congress event where Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Modi’s foreign policy, suggesting it relies too heavily on personal gestures such as hugging foreign leaders. During the exchange, after being jokingly asked by Sandeep Dikshit if he was hugging him thinking he was Meloni, Gandhi responded, “I have not reached that stage yet.” Initial condemnation came from various BJP and Shiv Sena members, who characterized the comments as disrespectful toward women and harmful to India’s international standing.
