Protests have emerged across India demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In Patna, Bihar, members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Democratic Youth Federation of India, and the Students’ Federation of India marched toward the Election Commission office to protest alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. Activists specifically called for the restoration of names removed during the Special Intensive Revision exercise. Police responded by deploying barricades and water cannon vehicles to prevent the procession from reaching its destination. Following these events, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) organized the ‘Ungli Toh Uthegi – Hallabol March’ in New Delhi. Led by national president Vinod Jakhar, the demonstration moved toward Jantar Mantar to question the accountability and functioning of the Election Commission. In Delhi, these demonstrations have intensified, resulting in several detentions of activists by security personnel. Tensions have further escalated following reports of harassment and assaults on protesters at Connaught Place and Kamla Market between October 11 and 14. In response to viral social media videos of these incidents, Delhi Police have registered at least 10 FIRs and arrested five individuals, with investigations continuing via CCTV footage review.
