On September 30, 2026, the Indian Ministry of Finance concluded its quarterly review by deciding to maintain existing interest rates for all Post Office Small Savings Schemes for the October-December 2026 quarter. This decision marks the tenth consecutive quarter of steady rates. Despite earlier market expectations of a rate hike driven by rising retail inflation—which reached 4.82% in August 2026—and increasing government bond yields, the government opted for stability. The 10-year government bond yield had risen to approximately 7.05% by late September. Some reports noted that this decision comes despite recent reductions in the RBI repo rate throughout 2025. Interest rates for the upcoming quarter remain as follows: • Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) and Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS): 8.2% • National Savings Certificate (NSC): 7.7% • Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP): 7.5% • Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (MIS): 7.4% • Public Provident Fund (PPF): 7.1% The MIS continues to allow a minimum investment of ₹1,000, with maximum limits of ₹9 lakh for individual accounts and ₹15 lakh for joint accounts.
