In July 2026, 2026 Arunachal Pradesh published released a draft electoral roll covering about 81 % of its registered voters, detailing the enumeration process and outlining opening a month‑long objection window for objections before a final roll is issued expected in September. A week later, later Meghalaya released published its own draft roll for the 2026 Assembly elections, roll, removing over 180,000 names flagged as absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate. The state also reported the composition of its electorate duplicate, and announced a similar objection period, period while adding new polling stations. Both states are conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise ahead of the 2026 elections, with Assembly elections. On 5 August 2026 the SIR process was reported to have flagged large numbers of voters for possible deletion in several states. In Karnataka, nearly half of Bengaluru’s 10.3 million registered voters were placed in the ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead, Others) category, with a verification deadline of 8 August. Meghalaya’s draft rolls subject roll showed 1.80 lakh electors (7.68 % of its electorate) excluded under the same categories, reducing its roll to public scrutiny before finalization. 21.69 lakh voters, and the state opened a one‑month window for claims. In Telangana’s Hyderabad district, 9.95 lakh electors (21 % of voters) were flagged, prompting a reverification order. Election officials stress that classification does not automatically delete names and that affected voters can appeal. The Karnataka Congress has alleged political bias, claiming the SIR is being used to delete over one crore voters, a charge the authorities deny.
