The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has engaged in various administrative and ceremonial activities. In late September, the organization announced a recruitment drive for 126 Constable (General Duty) Group-C positions under a sports quota. By late October, the focus shifted to internal recognition, with Director General Shatrujeet Kapur presiding over the ‘Himveer Samman Samaroh’ to honor personnel for courage and service. In October 2026, the situation evolved toward heightened operational readiness due to ongoing face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops along the Arunachal Pradesh border. Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur confirmed that confrontations involving the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) continue at several locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), specifically noting activity in areas such as Taksing, Asaphila, and Maja within the Upper Subansiri district. Kapur noted that these incidents have been ongoing since July. While the Indian Army previously dismissed certain reports, the ITBP chief’s comments provide confirmation of operational friction. Local groups, such as the Nah Welfare Society, have alleged that the PLA has expanded its presence by building roads, bridges, and camps in areas used for grazing and agriculture. To prepare for high-intensity combat, the ITBP is modernizing through the deployment of drone platoons, the introduction of a ‘Strike’ training course for Galwan-like scenarios, and the construction of reinforced underground shelters. The force is also utilizing its elite ‘Shaurya Commandos’ unit, with plans to deploy these specialized teams within every border battalion. During this period, the ITBP chief also highlighted a critical need for modernization, noting that current weaponry is approximately 50 years old. While the ITBP upgrades technological capabilities, the Ministry of External Affairs noted that situations become disturbed when Chinese forces deviate from established patrolling patterns. Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that Beijing adheres to existing agreements and is engaging in diplomatic and military communication to manage the border.
