Indonesian Minister of Transmigration, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, initiated a working visit to China in mid-October 2026 to pursue cooperation in modern agriculture, industrial downstreaming, and rural economic revitalization. The mission focuses on transforming transmigration areas into productive economic hubs through technological advancements and human resource development. Initial efforts involve discussions with China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to explore production technology and agricultural processing. Building on these objectives, the Minister proposed a research partnership with Peking University. This collaboration aims to conduct applied research in specific transmigration zones to map value chains and identify development barriers. The partnership seeks to integrate sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and mineral resources with processing industries, while addressing skill gaps and mindset shifts through academic and practical training for local communities. Domestically, the Ministry is promoting market-oriented business development to ensure increased resident income. In the Batu Betumpang Transmigration Area of South Bangka Regency, initiatives such as the IPB University Patriot Expedition Team are exploring partnerships to supply vegetables to local nutrition services. Programs like the Farmer Field and Business School are providing training in sorting, grading, and packaging to help farmers meet specific market demands regarding quality and delivery schedules.
