The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is conducting an ongoing investigation into bribery and gratification within Indonesia’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC). The probe follows a sting operation in February 2026 and subsequent developments in July 2026. In early October 2026, the KPK summoned several witnesses, including the Director of Customs Facilities and various businessmen. Testimonies during court proceedings involved claims that funds provided to officials were framed as corporate social responsibility for flood victims or assistance for customs offices affected by flooding. Several individuals, including regional customs heads and intelligence officials, have been named as suspects. By late October 2026, the investigation expanded to include searches at the headquarters of PT Djarum and the Kudus Customs and Excise Office in Central Java. Investigators are examining potential kickbacks related to the management of excise stamps used on cigarette packaging. The KPK has seized documents and electronic evidence as part of the inquiry, while the DJBC has stated it is cooperating with the legal process. On Between October 28 and 29, October 30, 2026, KPK investigators conducted searches at a series of raids targeting the PT Djarum headquarters and headquarters, the Kudus Customs Office, the Semarang Customs Office, and Excise the Central Java Regional Customs Office. During these searches, investigators seized various documents, electronic evidence, and an unspecified amount of cash. Preliminary estimates suggest the case could result in state losses amounting to trillions of rupiah. The KPK has named several suspects to date, including Gatot Heroe Hernanda, Head of the Kediri Customs Office, and Ahmad Dedi, a Customs and Excise official. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the investigation is in its early stages and will look back several years to determine the full scope of the alleged practices. The agency clarified that this investigation, which focuses on the excise sector, is distinct from separate tax-related corruption cases currently being handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
