Indonesia is undergoing a strategic transformation of its state-owned enterprises (BUMN) through the Danantara investment agency to bolster national fiscal stability. Initial efforts have focused on the complex restructuring of state-owned construction enterprises (BUMN Karya), with Danantara pursuing a gradual approach to protect workers, creditors, and investors. To strengthen resource governance, PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) began operations on June 1, 2026. Led by CEO Luke Thomas Mahony, DSI is preparing to launch a natural resource export governance platform on September 1, 2026. DSI will act as the sole intermediary for exports until the end of 2026, aiming to consolidate commodity transaction data and integrate with seven government ministries to prevent price manipulation. In the regulatory sector, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI has approved M. Sarjito as the Head of Executive Oversight for the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange (BMKS) under the OJK for the 2026-2031 period. Following a fit and proper test, Sarjito aims to have the exchange fully operational by January 1, 2027, to transition Indonesia from a price taker to a “price influencer” in the global mineral market. Regarding energy, President Prabowo Subianto has officially launched a 100 GWp solar power plant (PLTS) program in Gilimanuk, Bali. With an estimated investment of Rp1,140 trillion (US$71.3 billion), the program targets completion by 2029 and aims to reduce annual energy subsidies by Rp73.9 trillion while lowering greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 140 million tons of CO2 per year. Financially, Danantara reported a profit of Rp 330 trillion, The President has set an ambitious timeline, suggesting that completing the project within two years could earn rewards for the cabinet, though the official target is three years. The initiative will be implemented in stages, with a an initial 30 GWp target of Rp 360 trillion for 2026 and the current year. decommissioning of 13 GW of diesel power plants.
