In late July 2026, Indonesian provinces began a coordinated push to market their natural and cultural attractions to both domestic and international travelers. The first report highlighted Central Java’s diverse ecosystems—white‑sand beaches of Karimunjawa, volcanic craters and coloured lakes of the Dieng Plateau, trekking on Mount Merbabu, and scenic lakes such as Telaga Sunyi—positioning the province as a premier ecotourism hub. It also featured ten low‑budget hotels in Malang, East Java, offering pool facilities for families and staycation guests.

A few days later, the promotion expanded to include additional heritage and sustainability angles. Central Java added world‑renowned sites such as the 9th‑century Borobudur Temple, the historic Lawang Sewu building, and the Surakarta Palace, while still emphasizing natural draws like Karimunjawa National Park and the Dieng Plateau. Simultaneously, the city and regency of Bogor were presented as a model for eco‑friendly travel, showcasing the Bogor Botanical Gardens, Gunung Halimun‑Salak rainforest, community‑based Cinangneng Village tourism, and the Eco Art Park in Sentul City. Both regions stressed environmental protection alongside economic benefits from increased tourism.
