Indonesia is implementing various strategies to stabilize and expand its energy production across both fossil fuel and renewable sectors. In the upstream oil and gas industry, efforts are focused on maintaining production stability despite natural declines in mature fields. PT Pertamina (Persero) has introduced technical training programs, such as Extended-Reach Drilling (ERD) Well Design, to target unconventional hydrocarbon reserves. National oil lifting remained stable between 576.2 and 578.2 MBOPD through the third quarter of 2026, supported by technological efficiencies like batch drilling and dual completion. Major projects, including the LNG Abadi Masela Block and the Northern Hub in East Kalimantan, are transitioning from planning to physical execution. Recent production milestones include the SKW-040 development well at the Sukowati field in Bojonegoro, which achieved a temporary production test of 396 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), reaching 176% of its initial target. In South Sumatra, the BNG-084 development well previously exceeded its target by 161%. Exploration and distribution efforts continue to expand. PT Elnusa Tbk and Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) have launched a 688.5-kilometer Gerbera 2D seismic survey in Lampung and South Sumatra to map new potential. In North Kalimantan, Texcal Energy Bengara Indonesia (TEBI) is preparing technical field operations following Plan of Development approval, focusing on workover activities for the South Sebuku 1 and 2 wells and exploratory drilling for the South East Sebuku 1 well. To ensure energy security, Pertamina Patra Niaga and regional police in West Sulawesi are increasing supervision of fuel and LPG distribution to prevent hoarding. Simultaneously, the country is advancing renewable energy through solar, geothermal, and AI-optimized hydroelectric projects. Notably, Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) reported record geothermal electricity production of 4,114 GWh through September 2026, exceeding its target by 108.22 percent.
