Indonesia has been managing significant fire-related challenges, including widespread forest and land fires and localized residential fires. By late August 2026, the Forestry Ministry reported that nearly 286,000 hectares of land had been scorched since the start of the year. Due to delayed rainfall, authorities designated September as a critical period, deploying 1,000 additional personnel and utilizing weather modification techniques like cloud seeding. In mid-September, relief efforts focused on victims of residential fires. In Kapuas Regency, local government distributed cash and food to families affected by fires in the Kapuas Murung and Selat districts. Legislator Rahmad Jainudin noted that the aid aims to alleviate the burden on families who lost homes and belongings. In Jakarta, the West Jakarta Social Affairs Office and the Indonesian Red Cross provided essential supplies, including food, clothing, and bedding, to survivors at a temporary shelter in the Jelambar area. As of late September, relief efforts have expanded to address the health and logistical impacts of forest and land fires (karhutla) and resulting haze. In Tarakan, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga distributed health supplies, including KN95 masks, vitamins, and sterile milk, to residents and emergency responders. Meanwhile, in Palangka Raya, the City DPRD Secretariat has supported firefighting task forces by providing water via a 10,000-liter tank to assist TNI personnel and joint teams with land wetting operations in areas where direct water access was unavailable.
