Bank Indonesia continues to report rapid growth in the QRIS cashless system. By July 2026, cumulative transactions reached 15 billion, with the ecosystem serving 67 million users and 45 million merchants, primarily within the MSME sector. The platform is supported by 96 banks, 60 non-bank institutions, and four switching companies. To drive adoption and financial inclusion, Bank Indonesia announced an expansion of the 0 percent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) effective 1 October 2026. This policy will apply to all merchant categories for transactions up to 100,000 IDR, while micro-enterprises (UMI) will benefit from a 0 percent MDR for transactions up to 500,000 IDR. Digital transaction volumes in Indonesia reached 5.50 billion in July 2026, representing a 28.69% year-on-year increase. Currently, approximately 96.69% of the 45.46 million QRIS merchants are classified as MSMEs. QRIS has also expanded internationally through cross-border connectivity with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and China. Inbound transactions from foreign tourists using QRIS in Indonesia reached Rp5.9 trillion, totaling approximately 19.76 million transactions. Private sector players are also scaling efforts to support these national initiatives.
