Indonesia is hosting two major youth-oriented events in late October 2026. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is organizing the Indonesia Youth Summit (IYS) 2026 to commemorate Youth Pledge Day. The summit is designed to include specialized areas such as policy discussions, business and innovation showcases, technology and mental health labs, and creative expression arenas. Minister Erick Thohir announced that the summit would take place following the conclusion of the Asian Para Games. As part of the preparations, the ministry selected approximately 160 participants from a pool of 5,100 youths to attend the Wirasena Youth Camp, which focuses on leadership workshops and character building. To incorporate regional perspectives, the ministry planned to invite youth representatives from Singapore for benchmarking. The summit officially opened on October 29, 2026, at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta, under the theme ‘Youth for the Future: Leading Change, Creating Impact’. The event aims to prepare the younger generation for the ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’ vision. During the opening ceremony, Minister Erick Thohir addressed global challenges facing young people, including unemployment, education gaps, and mental health issues, while also noting risks from digitalization such as misinformation and disinformation. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Sugiono emphasized that national success depends on the quality and courage of the youth, urging participants to use their idealism to help Indonesia compete globally. Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid also addressed the summit, urging participants to transition from being mere technology users to digital leaders and creators. She noted that Indonesia’s digital economy, currently valued at approximately 100 billion USD, is projected to reach 360 billion USD by 2030, which requires human-centered leadership in the era of artificial intelligence. On October 30, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus delivered a keynote speech titled ‘From Youth Camp to National Leadership Pipeline’.
