The system has faced criticism regarding inaccuracies. In the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Pamekasan, residents have reported sudden changes in their decile status, which can disqualify them from essential assistance. Economist Arief Anshory Yusuf suggested the classification error rate could reach 70%, while Senator Ahmad Syauqi Soeratno criticized the implementation as a “surprise” policy. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf clarified that shifts result from a national data consolidation process integrating 12 million new data points. Discrepancies have reportedly led to the wrongful cancellation of safety nets, including BPJS healthcare and the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) education program. In Jakarta, DPRD Commission C member August Hamonangan reported receiving 265 complaints over a two-month period, noting that many citizens were moved to higher deciles without being surveyed by field officers. Hamonangan has called for an extensive appeals process and improved field verification to ensure the accountability of the Rp803.77 billion social assistance budget allocated in the 2026 Revised Regional Budget.
