Indonesian officials have highlighted the importance of leadership quality and technological independence for national development. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, stated that infrastructure success requires leaders with integrity and character who can make decisions for the public benefit. Additionally, Minister of Transmigration Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara has advocated for mastering waste-to-energy technologies through human resource development and knowledge transfer rather than relying solely on foreign procurement. In a related effort to improve governance, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus has urged regional governments to integrate innovation into their work culture. Ahead of the 2026 Innovative Government Award, Wiyagus emphasized that innovation should focus on effective ways to deliver public value and strengthen productivity, institutional quality, and technological development through collaboration between government, business, academia, and media. As the 2026 Innovative Government Award approaches, regional leaders have begun presenting specific initiatives. West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah introduced ‘Lameh Kesa’, a program to process palm oil sap into brown sugar, and ‘Udah Gagah’, a mental health early detection program. In Makassar, Mayor Munafri Arifuddin presented the Lontara+ digital service platform and the SALAMA disaster preparedness program for children. Separately, the 29th Anugrah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards were held in Jakarta. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon noted that the awards aim to build an inclusive and sustainable music ecosystem by celebrating Indonesia's diverse ethnic and linguistic heritage.
