Indonesian police raids on nightlife venues

Overview

Law enforcement agencies in Indonesia have conducted several raids on nightlife venues and other locations to combat drug use. In Palangka Raya, police performed urine tests at the ZOOM and LUNA Karaoke nightclubs, identifying three methamphetamine users. In Pekanbaru, a joint task force raided the MP Club, detaining 68 individuals, 63 of whom tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Authorities are also considering recommending the revocation of the club’s operating license.

Recent operations have expanded to other regions, including Bekasi, Deli Serdang, Bengkalis, West Sumatra, OKU Timur, and Bantul. On October 18, 2026, a joint operation by the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) and the National Narcotics Board (BNN) targeted nightclubs in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) and East Jakarta areas. During these raids, nine visitors tested positive for etomidate and methamphetamine.

While drug tests were positive, officers reported difficulty finding physical methamphetamine crystals on-site. Authorities seized vape cartridges suspected of containing etomidate for laboratory testing. AKBP Ivan Adhitira of Bareskrim Polri noted the difficulty of proving drug distribution within establishments, as visitors often bring prohibited substances from outside. Detainees are undergoing BNN assessment to determine if they require medical rehabilitation or are connected to distribution networks.
