Indonesian egg farmers recently faced an economic crisis driven by rising feed costs and falling egg prices. The National Layer Poultry Association (PPN) requested government intervention to stabilize corn supplies, as corn accounts for roughly 50% of feed ingredients. In regions like Blitar, small-scale farmers reported egg prices dropping to Rp17,100 per kilogram while production costs climbed. This led to direct dialogues between cooperative representatives and the Ministry of Agriculture. By late 2026, market indicators showed signs of recovery. The price of Day Old Chicken (DOC) rose 3.9% month-on-month in September, reaching its highest level since July 2023. While broiler chicken prices experienced a slight correction, retail prices for chicken eggs rose to Rp28,550 per kilogram. The stability of profit margins for major poultry companies remains tied to the balance between these selling prices and the cost of corn. To further stabilize the market, the Indonesian government has begun addressing distribution anomalies. Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian reported that regulating middlemen is intended to resolve discrepancies where producer-level prices remain low while consumer prices rise. In coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and law enforcement, authorities are monitoring supply chains to ensure healthier trading mechanisms. In Tangerang, local authorities are monitoring traditional markets, where broiler egg prices have been reported at approximately Rp26,000 per kilogram, staying below the maximum retail price of Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram.
