While the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries initially stated that imports from countries like Ecuador were intended as raw materials for processing via Bonded Zones rather than for domestic consumption, authorities have since seized approximately 1,048 tons of imported shrimp in East Java. In response to the enforcement, legal counsel for PT Baramuda Bahari and PT Megamarine Pride has called for transparency and legal certainty. While not contesting the government’s oversight authority, the companies have questioned the proportionality of the sealing measures and requested clarification on the specific legal basis for the action, citing concerns regarding the economic impact on workers and local supply chains.
