The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the National Police (Polri) have initiated efforts to enhance public safety and transportation security. Initial coordination focused on strengthening synergy between the two agencies to manage high travel volumes and improve accident handling during the upcoming Christmas, New Year, and 2027 Eid al-Fitr holiday periods. Following these coordination efforts, police forces launched the 2026 ‘Operasi Patuh’ (Obedience Operation) nationwide from October 26 to November 8, 2026. This large-scale initiative utilizes both manual ticketing and Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) technology to target high-risk violations, such as improper helmet use, seatbelt non-compliance, and mobile phone use while driving. While enforcement is a key component, authorities emphasized that the primary objective is to foster voluntary driver compliance through education and community engagement. The operation spans multiple regions, including Jakarta, Jakarta (Operasi Patuh Jaya), West Java, Bali, and Java (Operasi Patuh Lodaya), Bali (Operasi Patuh Agung), Gorontalo, South Sulawesi. Sulawesi, and Papua Barat Daya. To reduce accidents and fatalities, joint task forces involving the police, military (TNI), and local transportation departments have been deployed to monitor high-risk areas. In Jakarta, the Polda Metro Jaya deployment involves 2,938 joint personnel. Priority targets for enforcement include running red lights, speeding, driving against the flow of traffic, and operating vehicles with non-standard exhausts.
