Political debate has emerged continues in Indonesia regarding the educational credentials of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. This controversy follows a Constitutional Court ruling in a 2026 election dispute, in which the court stated it found no evidence that Gibran possessed the high school equivalency required for candidacy. While the court noted it could not disqualify him from office based on this finding, it stated it found no documents proving he possesses a high school diploma or equivalent from an overseas institution. In response, Ahmad Ali, Daily Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), has called for an end to the controversy, noting urging respect for international educational standards in Singapore and Australia, where Gibran completed his studies. He noted that the government has officially recognized the equivalence of Gibran’s studies in Singapore and Australia since 2019. Concurrently, Komarudin Watubun of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) dismissed claims that the controversy is a political operation, suggesting the issue could be resolved by presenting the original diplomas in court. This follows previous suggestions from Djarot Saiful Hidayat of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) suggested PDIP that the House of Representatives (DPR) should exercise its right to interpellation as various parties pressure the legislature to address the diploma issue.
