In early August 2026, the Sekolah Rakyat programme enrolled 2,692 new learners across 16 schools in Central Java and opened permanent facilities in Banjarbaru and Bandung, bringing the national network to 182 sites and targeting 28,568 students. The Ministry of Social Affairs created a Development Acceleration Team to fast‑track construction for 61 pilot schools, warning that unfinished projects could force temporary schools to close next year. Defending the quality of the initiative, officials highlighted recent academic successes, such as seven students from SRMA 26 Makassar winning national awards in mathematics and biology competitions. During a visit to Integrated People's School 8 in Tangerang, officials emphasized the program's commitment to providing free education, housing, food, and healthcare to ensure underprivileged children have access to dignified learning opportunities. By 9 August, local governments began allocating land for permanent facilities to support the program's expansion.
