Argentina continues to face a public health crisis driven by low vaccination rates and a record-breaking influenza season. While influenza cases have reached nearly 800,000, the country is also seeing a rise in other preventable diseases. Specifically, approximately 8,200 new tuberculosis cases have been reported, and pertussis caused 14 deaths among infants and children under two years old between 2025 and early 2026. Immunization coverage remains critically below the 95% target necessary to halt pathogen circulation. Reported rates include 49.4% for Hepatitis A, 50.5% for the first dose of polio, and 51.5% for the triple viral vaccine. In the province of Salta, influenza notifications have seen a significant decline, dropping approximately 70% from a peak of over 1,300 weekly cases to around 400. However, health officials remain cautious regarding a potential resurgence in September. Francisco García Campos, Director General of Epidemiological Coordination for the Ministry of Public Health, warned that the Milagro celebrations, which attract thousands of people, could facilitate new outbreaks. In Salta, the most affected demographics include children and adolescents aged 5 to 14, as well as adults in the 25–34 and 45–64 age brackets. Recent reports confirm the 70% decrease in influenza cases in Salta, but health ministries in Entre Ríos have noted a sustained increase in pediatric consultations for respiratory illnesses. This has prompted officials to reinforce recommendations regarding vaccination and ventilation.
