The National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP) has implemented various technical certification and vocational training programs across the Dominican Republic. In Peravia, INFOTEP partnered with Implementos y Maquinarias (IMCA) to certify 12 participants in a 132-hour backhoe operator course focused on safety and maintenance. This initiative was intended to increase job opportunities in the construction and infrastructure sectors. Subsequent efforts expanded to other regions. In Barahona, a collaboration with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) provided 45 different training programs to 350 participants, covering areas such as digital competencies, business management, and first aid. In La Vega, INFOTEP worked with the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE) to validate the professional competencies of 158 electricians, resulting in technical licenses for 99 workers to promote formalization and safety in the electrical installation sector. Further expansion of technical and higher education programs has been noted to address labor market demands. The Instituto Politécnico Loyola (IPL) and the Instituto Especializado de Estudios Superiores Loyola (IEESL) recently graduated 491 new professionals and technicians, comprising 272 technical high school graduates and 219 engineers and technologists. Additionally, INFOTEP has launched new initiatives in Bávaro, opening six training programs focused on the tourism and service sectors, including gastronomy, hotel reception, and refrigeration maintenance.
