The Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB) has announced its support for structural measures to combat illegal entities exploiting traffic accident damage and compensation processes. These efforts, conducted alongside the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) and the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, aim to prevent unauthorized consultancy and the illegal use of personal data through new systemic measures like the Smart Adjuster Assignment System. Following these investigations, authorities dismantled an organized crime network that allegedly generated approximately 15.6 billion lira in illicit gains. The syndicate reportedly obtained illegal power of attorney from 253,000 individuals by exploiting stolen personal data. The scheme involved transferring victim information to specific law firms and consultancy companies through illegal payments to various actors, including insurance employees and law enforcement officers. In response, detention warrants were issued for 825 suspects following operations in Istanbul, Ankara, Sakarya, and Gaziantep. Authorities targeted six law offices and 20 companies, with the decision made to transfer the identified companies to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF). The investigation, supported by MASAK, revealed that the network utilized deceptive phone calls and misleading claims regarding compensation to facilitate the fraud. The scheme allegedly involved a wide range of actors, including arbitration referees, agents, experts, and automotive repair professionals, through whom unusual money transfers were made. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and the TSB have emphasized a commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining integrity within the insurance sector.
