Speculation regarding the transfer of Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martínez to FC Barcelona has intensified. While club leadership has historically remained firm, reports suggested FC Barcelona was preparing a massive €100 million offer, reportedly driven by manager Hansi Flick. Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has reiterated that Martínez is not for sale, noting the player is under contract until July 2029. Coach Cristian Chivu has consistently dismissed the rumors, characterizing Martínez as a crucial, unsellable member of the squad who remains highly motivated. Following the 2026 summer transfer window, Martínez addressed the situation during the Gran Gala del Calcio. Speaking to Sky Italia, the striker confirmed that interest from FC Barcelona was accurate, noting that while such offers are an “honor” and a “pleasure,” his intention has always been to remain with Inter Milan. He cited his deep connection to the club, the city of Milan, and his personal life as primary reasons for his commitment. Reports indicate Barcelona pivoted toward Martínez after failing to secure a deal for Julián Álvarez from Atletico Madrid. Additionally, Arsenal reportedly made an approach to the striker in the closing stages of the window, though Inter Milan maintained its stance that the captain was not for sale and declined to enter negotiations. Inter President Giuseppe Marotta has since confirmed the club's decisive response to Barcelona's interest, stating that Martínez represents both the “present and the future of the club.” ~~Martínez has reiterated his desire to continue his career with the Nerazzurri and become a club icon.
