Inter Milan has announced the departure of sporting director Piero Ausilio after 28 years with the club. The separation was reached by mutual agreement following a breakdown in contract renewal negotiations between Ausilio and the club’s ownership, Oaktree. Details regarding the dispute indicate that Ausilio sought a multi-year extension of at least two or three seasons and a salary increase of approximately 300,000 euros. In contrast, the club offered a much smaller raise of roughly 100,000 euros, with proposals varying between a one-year extension and a term through 2028. Following the failure to reach an agreement, the parties signed a mutual termination of the contract, effective immediately. Ausilio, who joined the club in 1998 and became sporting director in 2014, is credited with a significant legacy including Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana titles. His departure was marked by an emotional farewell at the Appiano Gentile training center, where he met with players and staff. Former president Massimo Moratti described the exit as the loss of a ‘vital part of the club’s identity.’ To maintain management continuity, the club has promoted Dario Baccin, a long-time collaborator and deputy of Ausilio, to the position of Chief Sport Officer. President Giuseppe Marotta described the appointment as an ‘innovative choice’ that preserves the club’s internal DNA. Inter continues its season under the leadership of Marotta and Cristian Chivu.
