In Limassol, Cyprus, a 22-year-old Turkish Cypriot man was severely assaulted by a group of Greek Cypriots on October 16. The victim sustained injuries, including cuts to his heels, and required surgery. Limassol police are investigating the incident, which may be linked to recent thefts of hunting dogs in the area. In Rethymno, Greece, three men aged 21, 25, and 27 were arrested following a violent robbery and attack on a 47-year-old man on a Thursday night. The victim was ambushed by four individuals wearing helmets while returning from Heraklion; the attackers attempted to steal a backpack containing a sports banner. An off-duty police officer intervened during the assault and was struck by one of the perpetrators, sustaining minor injuries, before the group fled on motorcycles. Following a search by the DIAS rapid response unit, three suspects were apprehended, though authorities continue to search for a fourth individual. The victim was treated at Rethymno Hospital and has been discharged. The suspects face charges including robbery, causing bodily harm, violence against public officials, and violations of sports violence laws. Police are investigating if the motive was related to football hooliganism.
