Following Eduardo Baptista’s successful debut, Internacional’s managerial and competitive landscape has undergone significant shifts. The club transitioned to coach Paulo Pezzolano, who was ultimately dismissed following a string of poor results and elimination from the Copa do Brasil, leaving the club in 18th place. After an interim period, Internacional hired Eduardo Baptista to lead the fight against relegation. In late September 2026, Baptista began implementing tactical changes to address poor offensive output. Despite these changes, a 1-0 loss to São Paulo left the club in 18th place. By early October, Internacional secured a vital 2-1 victory against Corinthians in the 29th round. This win provided breathing room for Internacional, moving them to 17th place, while the defeat extended Corinthians’ losing streak to seven matches. Following the loss to Internacional, Corinthians dismissed head coach Fernando Diniz and his technical staff. The club is currently evaluating replacements, including Ramón Díaz, Fábio Carille, and Jorge Sampaoli, while interim coach William Batista leads the team. Corinthians remains in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone. In the 32nd round, Internacional achieved a decisive 3-0 victory against Botafogo at the Beira-Rio stadium, despite heavy rain and a saturated pitch. Goals from Matheus Bahia, Juninho, and Bernabei moved Internacional to 35 points, temporarily lifting them out of the relegation zone (Z-4) and into 16th place, pending the result of the Corinthians vs. Vasco match.
