International Beer Day, observed on the first Friday of August, fell on August 7 2026. The holiday, founded in 2007 by Jesse Avshalomov in Santa Cruz, California, encourages gatherings, gratitude toward brewers, and exploration of global beer styles. On that day, celebrations were held worldwide. In New Zealand, the Brewers Association highlighted a consumption of about 268 million litres, with low‑carb beers accounting for 27 % of sales and no‑alcohol beers 2.7 %. Lager remained dominant at 68.7 % of the market, and the sector generated over NZD 870 million in excise duty and GST. AB InBev launched a global "Cheers to Beer" campaign featuring a new film, emphasizing beer’s role in connecting cultures. The campaign coincided with a 5.6 % revenue increase and 1.1 % volume growth in Q2 2026, driven partly by expanding no‑alcohol offerings. In Vienna, Austria, the Ottakringer Brewery attempted a world‑record pour of more than 600 glasses of beer simultaneously on 1 August, ahead of International Beer Day. The event, part of the Ottakringer Beer Festival running from early July to early September, offered free entry after registration, commemorative glasses, vouchers for the festival and participation certificates. The festival showcased over 20 beer specialties, live music, bieryoga, pub quizzes and brewery tours.
