International gold smuggling interceptions

Overview

Customs officials in separate incidents intercepted significant quantities of gold being transported through international airports.

In Ahmedabad, India, authorities seized 282.91 grams of 24-carat gold from a passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi. The gold was concealed within metal strips screwed into three trolley bags.

In Yogyakarta, Indonesia, officials intercepted 4,266 grams of solid gold shaped like capsules. The gold was found hidden on the bodies of two Chinese nationals traveling to Singapore. The seized material, which has a purity of 98.97%, is valued at approximately Rp11 billion.
